Traditional Liposuction
Tumescent liposuction, also called traditional lipo, is used by our Wisconsin plastic surgeons for large areas with the patient under general anesthetic. First, our surgeons will make one or more tiny incisions near the area to be treated. The incisions are very small and usually located in skin folds or contour lines. The area will be infused with tumescent fluid to manage pain and bruising. Your surgeon will then manually move the liposuction instrument (called a "cannula") back and forth underneath the skin to break up and remove unwanted fat deposits. This is done gently with a power-assisted liposuction device that vibrates the cannula. The vibration allows the cannula to pass through the fat with greater ease, reducing trauma, pain, and bruising.
Laser-Assisted Liposuction
Liposuction procedures can be enhanced using laser-assisted liposuction. This technique uses light energy to break up fat and tighten skin while leaving surrounding tissue such as nerves, blood vessels and connective tissue intact. As a result, the treatment results in smooth contouring and low incidence of complications.
