Fox Valley Plastic Surgery Launches Complete Vein Care Program

March 31, 2009 – Oshkosh, Wis. – Fox Valley Plastic Surgery is pleased to offer a complete vein care program for treatment of medical and cosmetic vein issues, including superficial venous reflux.

Fox Valley Plastic Surgery uses the VNUS Closure® procedure to treat superficial venous reflux, a condition that develops when the valves responsible for keeping blood flowing out of the legs become damaged or diseased. Common symptoms of superficial venous reflux include pain, swelling, leg heaviness and fatigue, as well as varicose veins.

The Closure procedure is a minimally invasive treatment that is much less invasive than vein stripping. Dr. David Janssen, board-certified plastic surgeon with Fox Valley Plastic Surgery, inserts a thin catheter into the vein through a small opening. The catheter delivers radiofrequency (RF) energy to the vein wall, causing it to heat, collapse, and seal shut. The Closure procedure takes approximately one hour to complete. Patients can resume normal activity the same day. Most procedures are covered by insurance based on medical necessity.

Fox Valley Plastic Surgery has completed over 200 VNUS Closure® procedures for patients from Northeast Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The satisfaction levels are high and patients are referring friends and family members to the practice. This behavior supports the national study stating 98% of patients who have undergone the Closure procedure are willing to recommend it to a friend or family member.¹

Fox Valley Plastic Surgery treats many cosmetic vein issues using sclerotherapy and Veinwave™. These processes work well for treating spider veins and tiny thread veins.

Veinwave treatments are performed on an outpatient basis. Thermal energy is used to heat the vessels (a process known as thermo-coagulation) utilizing a high frequency energy. The heat is intense and causes the wall of the vein and the blood within it to break down. Each treatment takes just 15 minutes to perform and patients can resume normal activities after their session. The treatment leaves no bruising.

Sclerotherapy of spider veins is also performed on an outpatient basis. This procedure is done by carefully injecting sclerosing solution, which causes veins to collapse and fade from view. A typical sclerotherapy session is relatively quick (less than one hour). Approximately one injection is administered for every inch of spider vein, with most patients receiving anywhere from five to 40 injections per treatment session.

Dr. David Janssen believes complete vein care with the cutting-edge technology positions Fox Valley Plastic Surgery as the best resource for treating medical and cosmetic vein issues. The practice offers complementary consultations to assess medical need for the VNUS Closure® procedure and determine the best treatment plan for cosmetic vein issues.
