Treatments for Men & Women

Bio-Identical Hormones:  Almost all people over age 40, and in many cases over 30, begin to experience hormone imbalance.  Exposure to environmental and dietary toxins contribute to the natural decline of hormones as people age.  Balancing hormone levels is the secret to maintaining a youthful appearance as you age, losing weight, sleeping well, and being more energetic.  Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) generally improves the quality of life of those taking it.  HRT is a treatment for some women whose estrogen and testosterone (yes, women have it too!) levels have significantly dropped due to menopause.  It may also refer to the decline of testosterone in men, known as andropause.

Synthetic HRT has been on the decline in the last decade because of increased health concerns.  Traditionally, HRT has been prescribed by primary care providers, endocrinologists, or gynecologists.  In order to serve male and female patients who would be better off with hormone replacement therapy, Fox Valley Plastic Surgery offers bio-identical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT).

Risks of BHRT

BHRT will not only restore hormone imbalance but will also naturally alleviate symptoms of aging. It can also increase the risk of breast cancer among post-menopausal women. Because of this, patients should make their primary care providers aware if they elect to receive bio-identical hormones.  For some people, the slightly increased risk of breast cancer is offset by the greater quality of life while on BHRT. FVPS requires all patients to have a regular primary care doctor, and all female patients to be current on mammograms, pap smears, and bone density screening tests.  Learn more about BHRT.

Women’s Health

Labiaplasty:  The size, color, and shape of labia vary significantly, and may change as a result of childbirth, aging and other events.  For women who are not satisfied with the appearance of their labia, a labiaplasty can help.  This is a popular procedure in our office, and patients from the Fox Valley and beyond come here to get this procedure done.  Learn more about labiaplasty.

ThermiVa™: Patients who do not want labiaplasty surgery should consider ThermiVa™, a non-invasive treatment which rejuvenates labia almost immediately.  Maintenance treatments are required, but it is a very simple solution to a very difficult problem.  Learn more about ThermiVa™.

Lichen Sclerosus: Lichen sclerosus (LS) is a benign but chronic skin condition commonly found on the genitals and characterized by white patches that usually causes itching, burning or pain. In woman, LS can lead to thinning and shrinkage of the genital area that can make intercourse, urination, and defecation painful. Previous treatment options were limited to steroids. Recent studies have shown that a new treatment involving PRP may be an effective therapy in the management of LS. Learn more about this new LS treatment here.

Sexual Health

Vaginismus: Vaginismus is a condition where there is involuntary tightness of the vagina. This can occur during attempted sexual intercourse, insertion of tampons, or penetration involved in gynecological examinations.  The tightness is caused by involuntary contractions of the pelvic floor muscles surrounding the vagina.  The woman does not directly control or ‘will’ the tightness to occur; it is an involuntary pelvic response.  The sexual pain, tightness and penetration difficulties from vaginismus are fully treatable, and can be completely overcome with no remaining pain or discomfort.   Learn more about vaginismus.
