What is PRF?

PRF = Platelet-Rich Fibrin.
It is made from your own blood and is packed with:

  • Platelets
  • Growth factors
  • White blood cells
  • Fibrin (a natural scaffold that releases growth factors slowly)

Think of it as a next-gen PRP—more natural, longer-lasting, and better for delicate areas like under the eyes.

How PRF Under-Eye Injections Work

At your treatment visit, make sure you are well hydrated. To begin, we will draw 2 vials of blood which is we then place inside a centrifuge. After spinning, the PRF becomes separated from the other blood components and is withdrawn from the top of the vial. While the blood spins, you sit with numbing medication to limit discomfort and the PRF is injected using a blunt-tipped cannula as soon as spinning is complete.

The PRF Under Eye injections take about 30 minutes. Because PRF releases growth factors over time, results develop gradually and look very natural. Read this study by Matthias Aust on PRP for the lower eyelid area. It has before and after pictures of its subjects.

What PRF Helps With Under the Eyes

  • Dark circles (especially from thin skin)
  • Hollowing / tear troughs
  • Fine lines and crepey texture
  • Overall skin quality and brightness

⚠️ It does not replace fat loss dramatically like filler, but it improves the skin itself.

Its efficacy depends on patient-specific factors, such as baseline collagen density, skin elasticity, periorbital atrophy, and technical parameters, including centrifugation protocol, injection technique, and dosage. Unlike platelet-rich plasma (PRP), which also harnesses autologous growth factors, PRF offers a sustained release of bioactive components that may enhance collagen production.

What To Expect

What Results Look Like

  • Results are subtle and progressive
  • Skin appears thicker, healthier, and brighter
  • Less shadowing and tired appearance

Timeline

  • Swelling/bruising: a few days
  • Early improvement: 2–4 weeks
  • Best results: 6–12 weeks

Most people need 2–3 sessions, spaced about 4–6 weeks apart.

Risks & Side Effects

PRF is very safe, but possible side effects include:

  • Temporary swelling
  • Bruising
  • Tenderness
  • Rare unevenness (usually resolves)

Since it’s autologous (your own blood), allergic reactions are essentially nonexistent.

Who is a Good Candidate?

Great for people who:

  • Want a natural option
  • Have mild to moderate hollowing
  • Have dark circles from thin skin
  • Want to avoid synthetic fillers

Not ideal if:

  • You need significant volume replacement
  • You have severe under-eye fat loss or laxity (surgery may be better)
