Case Details
This 52-year-old female patient was diagnosed with atypical lobular hyperplasia in both breasts without evidence of malignancy. After careful consideration, she elected to proceed with bilateral mastectomy and implant-based breast reconstruction to reduce future cancer risk while maintaining a breast size similar to her natural appearance.
Two weeks after her initial bilateral mastectomy, Dr. Janssen performed breast reconstruction using implants supported with resorbable suture material mesh to help reinforce the skin and improve implant positioning.
Unfortunately, the patient later developed bilateral capsular contracture, a condition in which scar tissue tightens around the implants, causing firmness and distortion. To correct this, she underwent a second operation for implant exchange and revision breast reconstruction. Final implant sizes included a 400 cc implant on the right and a 380 cc implant on the left. Fat grafting was also performed to improve contour, softness, and symmetry.
Following revision surgery, the patient was very satisfied with her reconstructed breast appearance and overall results.
