UNDERSTANDING YOUR CONCERN

What Types of Skin Growths Can Be Removed Together?

Skin growths are common and can develop at almost any age. While many are harmless, some become irritated, uncomfortable, or cosmetically bothersome.

At Fox Valley Plastic Surgery, we evaluate several types of skin growths and determine whether they can be safely removed during the same appointment.

Common Reasons for Removing Multiple Skin Growths

  • Several skin tags that become irritated by clothing or jewelry
  • Multiple benign moles causing cosmetic concerns
  • Raised seborrheic keratoses that catch on clothing
  • More than one cyst or lipoma causing discomfort
  • Skin growths in visible areas such as the face or neck
  • A combination of different benign lesions that patients would like addressed together
  • A desire to reduce the number of separate office appointments

Our providers evaluate each growth individually and recommend a treatment plan based on your specific concerns.

Skin Tags

Skin tags are small, soft, benign growths that commonly develop on the neck, underarms, eyelids, and other areas where skin rubs together. They may become irritated by clothing, jewelry, or shaving.

Benign Moles

Moles are common pigmented skin growths that vary in size, shape, and color. Some patients choose to have benign moles removed because of irritation or cosmetic concerns. Changing or suspicious moles require appropriate medical evaluation before treatment.

Seborrheic Keratoses

Seborrheic keratoses are common, noncancerous growths that may appear raised, rough, waxy, or wart-like. They frequently develop on the face, chest, back, and other areas.

Cysts

Skin cysts are enclosed growths beneath the skin that may contain keratin or other material. Some become enlarged, inflamed, or uncomfortable and may benefit from surgical removal.

Lipomas

Lipomas are usually benign fatty growths beneath the skin. They may be removed when they become uncomfortable, enlarge, or create a noticeable bulge.

Other Benign Skin Growths

Additional superficial skin lesions may also be appropriate for removal, depending on their diagnosis, size, location, and characteristics.

Not every skin growth should be treated cosmetically. Any lesion that changes in appearance, bleeds unexpectedly, or raises concern for skin cancer should receive appropriate diagnostic evaluation. Biopsy or pathology examination may be necessary.

YOUR TREATMENT OPTIONS

How Are Multiple Skin Growths Removed?

Different types of skin growths may require different removal techniques. At Fox Valley Plastic Surgery, we offer several office-based treatment options, allowing our providers to select the most appropriate approach for each lesion.

SURGICAL EXCISION

Surgical excision involves removing a skin growth through a carefully planned incision. This technique may be recommended for cysts, lipomas, certain moles, and other growths that require complete removal or tissue evaluation.

Local anesthesia is typically used for suitable office-based excisions. Depending on the size and depth of the growth, stitches may be necessary.

SHAVE REMOVAL

Shave removal involves carefully removing a raised superficial skin growth at or near the skin surface.

This technique may be appropriate for selected benign moles, skin tags, and other superficial growths. Tissue may be submitted for pathology when indicated.

ELECTROCAUTERY

Electrocautery uses controlled heat to treat selected superficial growths and help control bleeding.

It may be appropriate for certain skin tags and other benign lesions, depending on their characteristics and location.

LASER ABLATION

Laser ablation may be used for selected benign superficial skin growths. This technique uses laser energy to treat targeted tissue.

Laser treatment is not appropriate for every lesion, particularly growths that require tissue sampling or diagnostic evaluation.

Can Different Removal Techniques Be Used During the Same Appointment?

Yes. Depending on the types of lesions present, your provider may recommend different techniques during the same appointment.

For example, a patient may have several skin tags treated with electrocautery while a separate benign raised growth is removed using a shave technique.

Larger cysts, lipomas, or lesions requiring more extensive surgery may need a separate procedure appointment.

Our providers will determine the safest and most appropriate treatment plan after evaluating your skin growths.

WHAT HAPPENS AT YOUR VISIT?

Simple, Convenient Multiple Skin Growth Removal

1. Evaluate. Your provider examines each skin growth and reviews your medical history, symptoms, and treatment goals. Any growth that appears unusual or suspicious may require additional diagnostic evaluation.

2. Discuss. We explain which lesions may be removed, the recommended techniques, expected healing, and estimated costs. If multiple eligible cosmetic growths can be treated during the same appointment, we will discuss available discounted pricing.

3. Treat. When appropriate, multiple skin growths may be removed during the same visit. Each treatment area is cleaned and prepared, local anesthesia is used when needed, and the selected removal technique is performed. Some larger or more complex lesions may require a separate appointment.

4. Recover. You receive instructions for caring for each treated area. Recovery depends on the number, location, and type of procedures performed.

Most patients undergoing minor superficial removals can return to normal daily activities promptly, although larger surgical excisions may require temporary activity restrictions.

Tell your provider about blood thinners, allergies, previous healing problems, and any skin growths that have recently changed.

INSURANCE & SELF-PAY OPTIONS

How Much Does Multiple Skin Growth Removal Cost?

The cost of removing multiple skin growths depends on several factors, including:

  • Number of lesions being removed
  • Type and size of each growth
  • Location on the body
  • Removal technique required
  • Complexity and anticipated procedure time
  • Whether pathology examination is necessary

Discounted Pricing for Multiple Cosmetic Lesions

At Fox Valley Plastic Surgery, discounted pricing is available when multiple eligible cosmetic skin growths are removed during the same appointment. This may make it more convenient and cost-effective for patients who have several unwanted benign growths. Cosmetic removal of benign skin lesions is generally not covered by health insurance.

When a lesion causes symptoms or requires medically necessary evaluation or removal, insurance coverage depends on the diagnosis, documentation, procedure, and individual insurance plan. Medical and cosmetic services are evaluated and billed separately as appropriate.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can multiple skin growths be removed during one appointment?

Yes. Multiple benign skin growths can often be removed during the same office visit. Your provider will determine which lesions can be safely treated together based on their size, location, type, and complexity.

Can different types of skin growths be removed at the same time?

Yes. Selected skin tags, benign moles, seborrheic keratoses, and other superficial growths may be treated during one appointment. Larger cysts or lipomas may require additional time or separate surgical appointments.

Is multiple skin growth removal painful?

Most patients tolerate minor skin growth removal well. Local anesthesia may be used to numb the treatment areas. Patients may feel a brief pinch during numbing or mild discomfort during treatment. Some tenderness or redness may occur afterward, depending on the procedures performed.

Is discounted pricing available for multiple skin growths?

Yes. Fox Valley Plastic Surgery offers discounted pricing when multiple eligible cosmetic skin lesions are removed during the same appointment. Pricing depends on the number, type, size, and location of the growths and the techniques required.

Can multiple skin growths be removed during my first appointment?

In some cases, treatment may be possible during the initial appointment. This depends on the types and number of lesions, the time available, and whether further evaluation is necessary. Contact our office before your visit to discuss your concerns.

Will removing multiple skin growths leave scars?

Any skin removal procedure can leave a scar or cause temporary or lasting pigment changes. The appearance of treated areas depends on the technique used, lesion size, location, individual skin characteristics, and healing. Scar-free results cannot be guaranteed.

How long does recovery take?

Recovery varies depending on the number and type of procedures. Small superficial removal sites often heal within one to three weeks, while deeper excisions may require several weeks or longer for initial healing. Scars may continue to mature for months.

Can moles, skin tags, and seborrheic keratoses be removed together?

Yes, when each lesion has been appropriately evaluated and the provider determines that removal during the same appointment is suitable. Different removal techniques may be used for different growths.

Are all skin growths harmless?

No. Although many skin growths are benign, some lesions can be precancerous or cancerous. Growths that change in size, shape, or color, bleed unexpectedly, or appear unusual should be evaluated by a qualified medical professional. Suspicious lesions may require biopsy rather than cosmetic removal.

Does insurance cover multiple skin growth removal?

Insurance generally does not cover removal performed solely for cosmetic reasons. Some symptomatic or medically necessary procedures may qualify for coverage depending on the diagnosis, documentation, and insurance policy.

Insurance plans may also limit the number of skin lesions covered during a single appointment, even when removal is medically necessary. These limits vary by insurer and procedure, and some patients may need additional appointments to complete treatment. Coverage and payment are subject to individual plan requirements.

Our office can discuss estimated costs, applicable insurance requirements, and self-pay options for cosmetic removals.
