Who May Benefit From Pro-Nox?
Pro-Nox may be a good fit for patients who:
- prefer to avoid or reduce the use of certain oral pain or anxiety medications when clinically appropriate,
- want an additional way to manage pain and anxiety during a procedure,
- want to stay alert after treatment, or
- want a short-acting comfort option that may allow them to resume normal activities sooner.
What is Pro-Nox Used For?
At Fox Valley Plastic Surgery, Pro-Nox may be used during a variety of procedures that patients may find uncomfortable, including in-office surgeries, vein treatments, and laser treatments. The system provides a non-addictive, patient-controlled option designed to improve comfort during treatment.
Many procedures still require topical or injected numbing medication. Pro-Nox can complement those approaches and may make the procedure more comfortable without requiring the provider to pause as often for discomfort. In some cases, it may reduce the need for injection numbing, which can contribute to bruising and downtime.
How Does Pro-Nox Work?
Pro-Nox delivers a fixed 50% oxygen and 50% nitrous oxide blend through a patient-controlled inhalation system. The medical gases are delivered only when the patient breathes in through the disposable mouthpiece.
During treatment, you hold the mouthpiece and inhale the mixture as needed. This allows you to control when you use Pro-Nox based on your own comfort level. The 50/50 oxygen and nitrous oxide mixture has also been used for decades in labor and delivery settings.
