Case Details
A 81-year-old male patient presented with a rapidly growing, crusted lesion on his lower shin that had developed over the previous three months. With a personal history of skin cancer, he elected to have the 1 cm lesion surgically removed. Before-and-after photos show the results six months after surgery.
Jay, PA-C, excised the lesion with a 2 mm margin and performed an intermediate layered closure, resulting in a 2 cm incision. The lower shin can be a challenging area for wound healing due to increased tension on the sutures and limited skin flexibility. The patient tolerated the office-based procedure without complications, and the incision healed within two weeks. He was extremely pleased with the outcome.
