The Venefit procedure uses minimally invasive segmental radio frequency (RF) to provide uniform heat to contract the collagen in the vein walls, causing them to collapse and seal. Once a leg vein is closed, blood flow is redirected to healthy veins.
Your Venefit Procedure
Venefit is performed on an outpatient basis. Using ultrasound, one of our plastic surgeons positions the tiny closure catheter into the diseased vein through a small opening in the skin, delivering radio frequency (RF) energy to the vein wall. The RF energy heats collagen around the vein, causing the wall to shrink and the vein to close.
The Venefit procedure is less invasive than vein stripping. With the old procedure of vein stripping, incisions were made in the groin and calf and a catheter was threaded through the diseased vein to pull the vein out of the leg. With the Venefit procedure, only one small puncture is made at the insertion site and the vein is then closed and left in place. This approach eliminates pain and bruising that is associated with vein stripping surgery.
Patients experience minimal to no scarring, bruising, or swelling following the procedure and typically resume normal activities within 1 day.
